1979 Ford Probe I Concept Car Burns Down at Concours d'Elegance

The unique 1979 Ford Probe I concept car, created by the Italian company Ghia, was destroyed in a fire at the Concours d'Elegance in Monterey (USA). Photos of the destroyed concept were published by the Scott Grund for Company workshop, which owned the car.

According to information, at the time of the fire, the Ford Probe I was already in a trailer and was getting ready to return home. Unfortunately, the fire destroyed almost everything, saving only the frame. The workshop engineers said that the car was no longer recoverable, but in any case, they would take the “remains” for storage.

This example was the first prototype of five created between 1979 and 1985. The concept was distinguished by its unique wedge-shaped form, which was intended to become a standard in the automotive industry in the 80s. The concept was equipped with a 2.3-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine.
