Porsche Cayenne Sets World Record for Towing
For some reason, automakers like to demonstrate the towing properties of expensive SUVs by towing airplanes
The beginning was laid more than ten years ago by the Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI, which managed to move a 155-ton Boeing 747. Then in 2003, the record was broken by the Nissa Patrol, which towed a 170-ton cargo plane. And finally, recently, the world record was set again by two Porsche Cayennes at once: the diesel Diesel S and the top-of-the-line Turbo S. Both SUVs were able not only to move the giant Airbus A380 liner weighing 285 tons, but also to drag it 42 meters, which was enough to get into the Guinness Book of Records.
Both cars were driven by Porsche UK engineer Richard Payne, who said that the company had never tested cars so close to their limits before.
Porsche claims that both SUVs were in standard configuration, and only the towbar mount was modified. However, judging by the video, it was clearly not possible without a heavy plate in the trunk of the SUVs: the SUV moved the plane too easily.
