Porsche to stop selling 718 Boxster and Cayman in Europe

Porsche is retiring the 718 Boxster and Cayman models because they do not comply with new cybersecurity regulations. This only applies to the European market

New cybersecurity requirements in the European Union come into force in July 2024. According to company spokesman Oliver Hilger, the coupe and convertible are equipped with electronics that do not comply with EU standards. He also noted that the necessary upgrade would cost half the budget that Porsche could spend on creating a new model.

It is noteworthy that the Cayman GT4 RS and Boxster RS Spyder were not subject to restrictions, since they are not mass-produced, but in a limited edition. And yet, the absence of the current 718 in Europe will not last long, because the company will introduce the next generation with a new electric powertrain in 2025.
