From 1968 to 1973, Porsche used the letter T (from the word Touring) to designate the most basic versions of the “nine hundred and eleventh”. However, in 2017, the revived modification of the 911 Carrera T changed its philosophy, becoming a lightweight sports car for enthusiasts. This version also appeared in the range of the 992 generation, and has now been updated following the base model. Moreover, the fresh Porsche 911 Carrera T has an even stronger focus on enthusiasts!
The T-version does not even have the PDK “robot” in the options list any more. Only “mechanics”! Moreover, if previously it was a seven-speed gearbox, unified with the PDK gearbox of the previous generation, now the Porsche 911 Carrera T is equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox (the seventh gear was simply removed). The 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine (394 hp, 450 Nm) is the same as in the standard updated Carrera (which is equipped only with the PDK “robot”). But now the T-version can be ordered not only with a coupe body, but also as a convertible. Acceleration time to 100 km/h is 4.4 and 4.6 s, respectively, the maximum speed is 295 and 292 km/h. The previous T-coupe accelerated to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and reached 291 km/h.
In addition to the type of gearbox, the second feature of the Carrera T version is its reduced weight. This is due to thinner glazing, the removal of some of the sound insulation, and the lack of a rear seat in the coupe (although it can be ordered). At the same time, the convertible still has a rear row. As a result, the updated Carrera T has become the lightest modern “nine hundred and eleventh”: the coupe weighs 1,490 kg in its unladen state, and the convertible weighs 1,580 kg. However, this is only 20-30 kg less than the regular Carrera with a “robot”.
In fact, such an unsuccessful diet is explained by a significantly expanded list of equipment. For example, from now on, the Porsche 911 Carrera T is equipped with a fully-controlled chassis. Adaptive PASM suspension, limited-slip differential, and electronic PTV traction vector control system (using standard brakes) are declared. Anti-roll bars with revised settings and a reinforced braking system are installed.
On the outside, the Porsche 911 Carrera T differs from the regular Carrera by its front splitter from the GTS modification and blackened exhaust pipes. The side windows display the shift pattern of the six-speed manual transmission, and the same pattern is projected onto the asphalt when the doors are opened. In addition, the logos and nameplates of the modification are scattered throughout the body.
Apparently Porsche has caught on to the comeback trend for “mechanics” among buyers of fast and expensive cars, which it did not fail to take advantage of. Orders for the updated Porsche 911 Carrera T sports cars are already open. In Germany, the coupe costs from 142 thousand euros, and the convertible – from 156 thousand euros. And that's about 13 thousand euros more than they ask for the base Carrera with a “robot”.
